As a Penangite myself, I am delighted to hear that Georgetown has been listed as one of the world cultural sites by UNESCO, alongside with Malacca. I used to think that Penang has nothing to offer besides its renowned hawker food. No offence but the beaches are never clean, the road signs are not clearly shown, public transportations sux, the people.…wait a sec! We are not talking about perfection and cleanliness here, are we? Oops soree. :p It is instead the cultural landscapes that earned Georgetown the recognition. See The Criteria for Selection

Topping the list is Italy whereby altogether 43 sites have been listed and it’s a shame that I have been to only one of those, Venice.
Spain comes second with 40 properties, followed closely by China, 37 sites. I have never been to these 2 countries at all. Guess I shall start planning. :)
For those who are planning to visit Penang, Italy, Spain and China in the near future, plzzzzz Penang comes first ok? *Cheers*
